Hearn, Lafcadio (1850–1904), U.S. writer of Irish-Greek origin. His move to Japan and naturalization as a Japanese citizen brought about his best work: In Ghostly Japan (1899), Shadowings (1900), Kwaidan (1904), and Japan: An Attempt at Interpretation (1904).
