Louis Hennepin
Hennepin, Louis (1640–1701?), Belgian Franciscan missionary and explorer. He went to Quebec (c.1675) as chaplain to La Salle and joined his 1679 expedition. Captured but well treated by Sioux, he was rescued in 1680. His exaggerated accounts of his travels were very popular.
