Hera

Hera, in Greek mythology, queen of the Olympian gods and sister and wife of Zeus; the goddess of marriage and birth. A jealous and quarrelsome wife, she often persecuted those who rivaled her for Zeus's affections. She was the patroness of the cities of Argos, Sparta, and Mycenae and the island of Samos. Her sacred symbols were the cow and the peacock. Hera is often represented as a regal figure wearing a bridal dress, carrying a scepter or with a wreath on her brow. The Romans identified her with the goddess Juno. A supporter of the Greeks against the Trojans in Homer's Iliad, she was also the protector of heroes.
