Woody Herman



Herman, Woody (Woodrow Charles Herman; 1913–87), U.S. musician and band-leader. He flourished during the 1930s and 1940s, but remained popular beyond the big band era because of his ability to adapt to changing styles in jazz. Herman played the clarinet and alto saxophone. His best known song was “Woodchopper's Ball” (1939).
