Hernia

Hernia, protrusion of an internal organ through an opening in the wall surrounding it. Hernias may be congenital or caused by muscle weakness in the lower abdomen (inguinal hernia), diaphragm (hiatus hernia), or navel. Corrective surgery is sometimes necessary.
