Dame Myra Hess



Hess, Dame Myra (1890–1965), English pianist noted for her interpretations of Bach, Mozart, and Scarlatti. During World War II, when London's concert halls were closed, Hess established a series of morale-boosting lunchtime concerts in the National Gallery for which she was named Dame Commander in the Order of the British Empire by King George VI.
