Rudolf Hess
Hess, Rudolf (1894–1987), German Nazi leader, Hitler's deputy (1933–39). In May 1941 he flew secretly to England in an attempt to convince Britain to withdraw from World War II. He was arrested and interned in Britain for the rest of the war. In 1946, at the Nuremberg Trials, he was condemned to life imprisonment for war crimes.
