Hipparchus
Hipparchus (c.180 B.C.–125 B.C.), Greek scientist, pioneer of systematic astronomy. He compiled the first star catalog and ascribed magnitudes to stars. He also estimated the size of the moon and its distance from the earth, and was probably the first to discover the precession of the equinox.
