Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin
Hölderlin, Johann Christian Friedrich (1770–1843), German lyric poet, noted for the grandeur of his images, derived from classical Greek themes. Among his best-known poems are Bread and Wine, The Rhine, and The Death of Empedocles. Hyperion is a semi-autobiographical prose novel.
