Winslow Homer
Homer, Winslow (1836–910), U.S. painter who often worked in water-color, best known for his landscapes and sea studies of New England and Florida, such as Gulf Stream (1899). Originally an illustrator, he recorded the Civil War for Harper's Weekly. His quasi-impressionist paintings revolutionized the style of U.S. painting in the 1880s and 1890s.
