Honeyeater

Honeyeater, any of several birds of the family Maliphagidea, native to Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. They feed on nectar and insects and some are pests in orchards because they eat flowers and fruit. Some species are very rare or extinct because they have been hunted and their forest homes cut down. The moho, which ranged as far as Hawaii, was prized for its yellow and black feathers, used by the Hawaiians for ceremonial cloaks. It is now extinct.
