Honolulu
Honolulu (pop. 371,300), capital and chief seaport of Hawaii, seat of Honolulu County, located on the southeast coast of Oahu Island. Honolulu grew from a fishing village in 1820 to the capital of independent Hawaii (1845) and then the territorial capital when Hawaii was annexed by the U.S. (1898). It is important as a shipping center, for sugar and pineapple processing, and as the tourist hub of Hawaii.
