Horticultural grafting

Horticultural grafting, technique of propagating plants by attaching the stem or bud of one plant (the scion) to the stem or roots of another (the stock, or rootstock). Only closely related species can be grafted. Roses and fruit trees are often grafted so that good flowering or fruiting varieties have the benefit of strong roots.
