Félix Houphouët-Boigny



Houphouët-Boigny, Félix (1905–93), president of the Ivory Coast since it gained independence (1960) until his death in 1993. In 1946 he helped found the Rassemblement Democratique Africain (RDA), which paved the way for independence of the French West African colonies. He was a French minister of state from 1956 to 1957.
