House of Commons

House of Commons, lower house of the British parliament. It consists of 635 members elected by simple majority in single-member constituencies. It is the assembly to which the government is ultimately responsible; it legitimizes legislation, votes money, and acts as a body in which complaints can be raised. Proceedings are regulated by the speaker, and a majority of members must assent before a bill becomes law.
