Hugh Capet



Hugh Capet (c.938–996 A.D.), king of France (987–996), founder of the Capetian dynasty. The son of Hugh the Great, the duke of the Franks, he was elected king in the place of the legitimate Carolingian heir, Charles of Lower Lorraine.
