(James Henry) Leigh Hunt
Hunt, (James Henry) Leigh (1784–1859), English critic, journalist, and poet. He was editor of the liberal Examiner (1808–22) and other journals. Hunt was a friend of the leading literary figures of his day, notably Keats and Shelley, whose poetic careers he furthered; Lamb; Hazlitt; Byron; and eventually Carlyle. His most highly regarded works are Lord Byron and Some of His Contemporaries (1828), Autobiography (1850), and the short lyric poems “Abou Ben Adhem” (1834) and “Jenny Kissed Me” (1844).
