Samuel Huntington



Huntington, Samuel (1731–96), Connecticut political figure who signed the Declaration of Independence. He served as a governor's council member (1755–83) and Continental Congress representative (1776–81) before becoming a Connecticut delegate to the Confederation Congress (1781–84). After being appointed chief justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court (1784), he served as lieutenant governor (1785) and governor (1786–96).
