Hussar

Hussar, European soldier who was a member of light cavalry units used for scouting. The Hussar uniform included a high, cloth cap (busby), a loose cape (dolman), and a heavily braided jacket. Napoleon perfected the efficiency of these soldiers, who became known for their fighting abilities. Hussars were no longer used after World War I.
