Iconoclast

Iconoclast (Greek eikon, “image” + klastes, “breaker”), person who practices iconoclasm, opposition to the religious use of images. Although religious pictures and statues have long been an important part of Christian worship, iconoclasts claim they lead to idolatry. Historically, the use of images in religious worship has been in dispute. In A.D. 843 the Eastern Church reached a settlement that permitted pictures but not complete images or statues.
