Idaho Falls



Idaho Falls (pop. 39,734), third largest city in Idaho, located in the southeastern portion of the state, on the Snake River. Population growth in Idaho Falls flourished during the early 1900s when flour mills and sugar factories sprung up. In 1949 the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission constructed a nuclear reactor testing station 30 mi (48 km) west of Idaho Falls. Today, Idaho Falls serves as a commercial and processing center for the farm, livestock, and dairy area of upper Snake Valley.
