Iguana

Iguana, family of lizards, the largest and most elaborately marked lizards of the New World. It includes insectivorous, carnivorous, and herbivorous species. Many species are territorial. Iguanas characteristically show ornamental scales and a dorsal fringe, and bear tubercles on the head and body. Some species have an erectile throat fan. There are 2 major groups: ground iguanas and green iguanas; there is also 1 species of marine iguana. All species are hunted for food, although this is greatly depleting their numbers.
