George Inness
Inness, George (1825–94), U.S. landscape painter. His best-known works, such as The Lackawanna Valley (1855), show the influence of Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot and the Barbizon school. Another principal work is June (1882). His later work, such as The Home of the Heron (1893), is less realistic and more atmospheric.
