Sea of Japan

Japan, Sea of, arm of the Pacific Ocean between Japan and the eastern coast of Asia. It has an area of about 400,000 sq mi (1 million sq km) and is warmed by the Japan Current. Average depth is 4,500 ft (1,370 m), with some trenches descending to 12,000 ft (3,660 m).
