Jefferson City

Jefferson City (pop. 33,619), capital of Missouri and seat of Cole County. Located on the Missouri River, in the central part of the state, Jefferson City is the commercial center for the surrounding agricultural region. Industries include food processing, printing, and publishing. The city was laid out in 1822 and named for Thomas Jefferson.
