Jimmu Tenno

Jimmu Tenno, mythical Japanese military and political leader. According to legend, he conquered large areas around the Inland Sea and became Japan's first emperor in the 600s B.C., but historians dispute the dates and question his existence. Jimmu Tenno is said to be a descendant of the sun goddess, leading to popular acceptance of the divinity of the Imperial Family, whose lineage is traced to him.
