Casey Jones

Jones, Casey (John Luther Jones; 1863–1900), U.S. railroad engineer and folk hero who drove the Cannon Ball express from Memphis, Tenn. to Canton, Miss. When it collided with a freight train on Apr. 30, 1900, Jones applied the brakes in time to save the passengers and crew, but he was killed.
