James Earl Jones

Jones, James Earl (1931– ), U.S. actor who achieved stardom for his portrayal of Jack Johnson in the stage productions of The Great White Hope (1968). He is also an acclaimed Shakespearian actor noted for his role in Othello (1963, 1982). Jones won a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway production of Fences (1986). His distinctive voice was used as that of DarthVader, in the classic science fiction film series, Star Wars.
