George S. Kaufman
Kaufman, George S. (1889–1961), U.S. playwright and stage director. His collaborations (over 40 plays and musicals), often noted for their satire, included Beggar on Horseback (1924, with Marc Connelly), Of Thee I Sing (1932, with Morrie Ryskind and George Gershwin; Pulitzer Prize), Dinner at Eight (1932, with Edna Ferber), and some of his most successful, written with Moss Hart, You Can't Take It with You (1936, Pulitzer Prize) and The Man Who Came to Dinner (1939).
