Kaunas



Kaunas (pop. 429,000), former capital city of Lithuania. Founded in 1030, it is Lithuania's second largest city and produces one-quarter of its manufactured goods, which include machine tools, paper, radio, and textiles. A cultural center as well, Kaunas has several museums and many buildings dating from the 15th century.
