Kensington rune stone
Kensington rune stone, inscribed stone found in 1898 on a farm near Kensington, Minn. The inscription in runes (alphabet used by Germanic and Scandinavian peoples in the Middle Ages) is purportedly an account of Norse exploration of the Great Lakes in 1362. Most scholars now agree that the stone is of much more recent origin, probably a hoax.
