Khmer empire

Khmer empire, ancient Southeast Asian empire dating from the 6th century, occupying much of modern Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its Angkor period (889–1434) produced beautiful architecture and sculpture. After the empire fell to the Thais in 1434, the court moved to Phnom Penh.
