Ernest Joseph King
King, Ernest Joseph (1878–1956), U.S. admiral, commander of the U.S. fleet and naval operations chief in World War II. His recognition of the importance of the air war and the superiority of aircraft carriers to battleships led to Japan's naval defeat.
