King, Stephen (1947– ), U.S. novelist and short-story writer. His best-selling occult thrillers about families threatened by malevolent supernatural forces include Carrie (1974), The Shining (1976), Cujo (1981), and Misery (1987). Other works include Gerald's Game (1992), Insomnia (1994), and Wizard and Glass (1997).
