Knoxville



Knoxville (pop. 604,816), city in eastern Tennessee, at the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains on the Tennessee River. Founded in 1785, Knoxville was occupied by Union troops during the Civil War. In the 1930s the dam complex of the Tennessee Valley Authority was built nearby.
