Emil Theodor Kocher
Kocher, Emil Theodor (1841–1917), Swiss surgeon. He won the 1909 Nobel Prize for medicine for his research of the physiology, pathology, and surgery of the thyroid gland. In 1878 he performed the first operation for the removal of an enlarged thyroid gland.
