Jerzy Kosinski
Kosinski, Jerzy (1933–91), Polish-born U.S. writer best known for his semi-autobiographical novel The Painted Bird (1965). Its vivid, often shockingly brutal imagery deals with “daily life among the violations of the spirit and body of human beings.” Among his other works are Steps (1968), for which he won a National Book Award, and Being There (1971).
