Serge Koussevitzky
Koussevitzky, Serge (1874–1951), Russian-born U.S. conductor. He left the USSR for England in 1920 and settled in the United States, where he became conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (1924–49). In 1940 he established the Berkshire Music Center at Stockbridge, Mass. He is remembered as a champion of contemporary composers.
