René Théophile Hyacinthe Laënnec



Laënnec, René Théophile Hyacinthe (1781–1826), French surgeon, physician, and inventor of the stethoscope. Laënnec specialized in heart and lung pathology and is considered the founder of chest medicine. He described his research in A Treatise on Mediate Auscultation (1819).
