Jean de La Fontaine
La Fontaine, Jean de (1621–95), French writer. He is remembered especially for his Fables (1668–94), moral tales drawn from Aesop and Asian sources that he used to comment satirically on contemporary society, and for his humorous, bawdy Tales and Novels in Verse (1664–66).
