Joseph Louis Lagrange
Lagrange, Joseph Louis (1736–1813), French mathematician and astronomer who made important contributions to calculus and differential equations and was influential in adopting the decimal system in metrics. He worked also on celestial mechanics, in particular explaining the moon's libration (swinging movement). His most important work is the Mécanique analytique.
