Fiorello Henry La Guardia
La Guardia, Fiorello Henry (1882–1947), U.S. statesman and mayor of New York City. As a Republican member of Congress (1917–19, 1923–33) he supported liberalizing and prolabor measures, including the Norris-La Guardia Act forbidding the use of injunctions in labor disputes. As mayor (1933–45) he instituted major reforms in New York and fought corruption.
