Lahore

Lahore (pop. 3,150,000), city in eastern Pakistan, capital of the province of Punjab, lying on the Ravi River. Lahore is Pakistan's second largest city and is a center for education, steel production, film-making, and textile manufacturing. The city served as a capital for the Mogul and Sikh empires before being taken over by the British in 1849.
