Lake dwelling

Lake dwelling, shelter built on stilts or piles in the waters of a lake. Stone Age and Bronze Age lake dwellings can be found in parts of Europe, and in some parts of the world they are still built. Crannogs, strongholds built on artificial islands, were built in Ireland, Scotland, and England from the Late Stone Age until the Middle Ages.
