Lake Mead



Lake Mead, largest reservoir in the United States, located in northwestern Arizona and southeastern Nevada, built by confining the Colorado River at the Hoover (Boulder) Dam. Lake Mead is located approximately 15 mi (24 km) east of Las Vegas, Nev. It is about 250 sq mi (650 sq km) in area, 115 mi (185 km) long, and 1–10 mi (2–16 km) wide. It was named after Elwood Mead, reclamation commissioner (1924–36).
