Fritz Lang



Lang, Fritz (1890–1976), Austrian-U.S. film director. He first established himself as a leading director of expressionist silent films, including Metropolis (1926), a bleak futuristic drama. In M (1931), a sound film about a child murderer, Lang explored the psychology of evil. After emigrating to the United States in 1933, he created such Hollywood films as Fury (1936), Clash by Night (1952), and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (1956).
