John Lennon



Lennon, John (1940–1980), rock musician, a founding member of the Beatles. Along with Paul McCartney he wrote most of the Beatles' music, including “Help” (1965), “Strawberry fields” (1966) and “A Day in the Life” (1967). As a social critic he wrote “Give Peace a Chance” (1969) and “Imagine” (1971). Lennon married Yoko Ono in 1969 and continued to compose and sing after the Beatles disbanded (1970). He was shot to death on Dec. 8, 1980 by Mark David Chapman.
