Alain René Le Sage

Le Sage, Alain René (1668–1747), French novelist and dramatist. His picaresque masterpiece Gil Blas (1715–35), a witty satirical account of French society, influenced the development of the realistic novel in France. He also wrote the comedy Turcaret (1709).
