Li Peng

Li Peng (1928– ), Chinese premier (1988–98). Li Peng has been a member of the Chinese Politburo, the policymaking arm of the government, since 1985. When citizens demonstrated for democracy in 1989, Li Peng advocated force to crush the demonstrations. In 1998, Li Peng was succeeded by Zhu Rongji.
