Stephen Harriman Long
Long, Stephen Harriman (1748–1864), U.S. explorer, army engineer, and surveyor. He explored the upper Mississippi River (1817), the Rocky Mts., where Longs Peak is named for him (1819–20), and the Minnesota River (1823). His survey for the Baltimore and Ohio railroad resulted in a railroad manual.
